Fontalo created Mascots – humans contaminated with animal genes – to guide and protect the colonists of planet Purlieu, but after a disaster, they abandoned them. Donte, a Mascot, is destined to bring the colonies together.
Sometimes being the chosen one means taking all the risks. Donte isn't one to shirk his duties, but a ruler must learn to delegate. As the Anialwch connection in a Prophecy, he must learn to deal with unbelievers of all sorts - some who want to eliminate him. He has to learn who is friend and who is foe. Book 2 of The Mascot Trilogy is a struggle to an uncertain end.
When Fontalo returns to reclaim its property, the mascots, Donte represents Purlieu in a resistance that begins to look futile. He decides the only way Purlieu can be free is if he goes to court on planet Oriel. He has no idea if he will be welcome, but he is willing to risk all in the fulfillment of the Prophecy to lead Purlieu to freedom.
